It seems like everyday for the past year and a half, we’ve been inundated with the divisive rhetoric of the 2016 campaign and subsequent election of an administration that has created more questions than answers, more uncertainty than security, more fear than unity. These are not unfounded and we should be wary of what comes next. Already we’ve seen the administration issue executive orders, then take them back or provide explanations that don’t provide any assurances that the nation’s interests are paramount. It can be easy to sit back in shock/awe and let things happen as they may but that’s not what we should be doing.
If you’ve stumbled upon this page, you probably know someone who’s served in the U.S. Armed Forces who’s had to deal with a history of discrimination with the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) policy, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), or any other hurdle placed to bar the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) community from obtaining the rightful place in the American fabric. Perhaps there are those of you who have served or are serving in the military post-DADT/DOMA. This applies to the families of LGBT Veterans and Servicemembers as well. You are not alone in this.
There are things you can do and ways you can push back on the administration. As Veterans, Servicemembers & Families, you have a place in the efforts of resistance because you fought for the rights and freedoms presented by this nation. It may feel like your efforts were for naught in this new era of uncertainty but you can do something about it all.
Starting out as a humble online document, Indivisible has fostered a movement of proactive resistance to the agenda of the administration. Over 4,500 local groups across the United States have taken the Indivisible Guide and have used it to notify the administration and their elected leaders that the people will not sit back and let the country be taken apart.
You can be a part of the movement. Here’s how:
- Visit the Indivisible website: www.divisibleguide.com
- Download your own copy of the Indivisible Guide
- Search, find, and join a local Indivisible group
- Start up and register your own group
- Find an event or host an event
